Ethiopian artist Uman

One night returning from a long walk across the island, we encountered a beautiful articulate (4 languages, including Aramaic) ethiopian boy with his art (drawings on paper) spread out on the walk. Under the marquis banner of the gay bar 'Nowhere', he was showing to a young lady. We stopped to look, too.

My friend and he exchanged phone numbers, and today she tells me he has called from Bellview hospital, from one of the wards there. It does not seem he -wants- to be in Bellview hospital.

Uman is the fellow's name. All he would give to the staff there. Some trouble getting to see him, but finally do. He is turning out these drawings. They have a kind of sex obsession and a Mayan tint. He can probably not make it to his own art show from the ward.

We wonder just why Fariq Uman Mohammad is in the Bellview sobriety ward. Here is his drawing of the doctor he is closest to there.
